Unity XR Platform plugin plans?

Hi.

Are there plans to make a Wave plugin for the new Unity XR Platform? If I'm targeting an app for steamvr, oculus, WMR and Wave (Vive Focus), what should I use? VIVE Input Utility (VIU)?

@mgstauffalt Currently, we are integrating Oculus XR Plugin for VIU.

We plan to integrate for all VR devices, but some of the XR plugins are still in preview, we do not have a specific date for release yet.

Sorry, does that mean you're adding Oculus XR Plugin support within VIU, and VIU will also work with Unity XR Platform then, and since Oculus XR Plugin (IIUC) supports steamvr and WMR, it would mean support for all of these through VIU? Or are you somehow able to change the Oculus XR Plugin to include support for VIU?

@mgstauffalt We are adding Oculus XR Plugin support within VIU.

It will work just like Oculus Desktop or Oculus Android packages.

At the same time, we are also trying to integrate Input System too.

For supporting SteamVR and WMR, we will take a look after complete integration with Oculus devices.

Everything is not 100% confirm at this point, we are still figuring out the best integration method.

@mgstauffalt For the latest stable build, we will always update to VIU GitHub.

For Unity Asset store, it will not be updated very frequently unless we do have critical issue or update to release.

Hi @andrewSimulatedReality

We see the developer demand about the Unity new XR framework. At current stage we don't have a confirmed support plan or target schedule. What I can comment is that it is being examined internally. Thanks for asking.

Hello,

At the company I work for we are developing a cross platform set of apps, and want to go with the new unity xr framework.  Would it be safe to go this direction, assuming that you will drop a vive plugin soon?  Or, do you think we should just use the wave sdk and the oculus sdks, to go with a safer route?
Also, if you have any preview packages, could I get access to those?  Thank you. @Cotta

Thanks for your interest. At current stage we don't have a clear roadmap or release date yet. The recommended way for Unity developers is still to go with the Wave SDK Unity plugin available on VIVE developer website.

When we have further information ready to share, we'll announce it here in the forum. Thank you!
