General complaint / Controller repair

After waiting 2 weeks for a controller repair and getting it back I don't believe there is any issues with the controller but I'm going to report now that the top of the controller track pad is very slightly less responsive than the rest of the controller, I think this is just normal for Vive controllers but the other one I have is slightly more "clicky". I'm reporting it now so it's in the logs just in case because I don't want to get scammed later.

Also another thing, the controller was packed so well you could probably drop it off a 2 story building and it'd be ok, but the controller was covered in saw dust, I don't think it'd be hard to brush that off before sending it, but the way it was packed looks like it was seriously rushed, it's easy to tell, so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to assume the repair was rushed too, although as I said, there doesn't appear to be any problems with it.

But when you send something to get repaired, specifically a new 2 week old faulty controller you would typically expect it to come back NEWER than when you sent it in the first place. And I was under the impression that items such as controllers are usually sprayed / wiped down for hygiene sake but the controller smells like it's come straight out a workshop, it's smells of oil.

On top of all this I was told that I would receive a brand new controller by two different people when contacting support as opposed to the old one repaired, it's not like that's a big deal, maybe the information was just incorrect but it's still something to point out.

I know these claims sound extreme but this is exactly how it came back to me, also my first controler which I haven't used for the last 2 weeks while waiting for my other to return now has a squeeky trigger.. Thought that'd be worth adding in.

  • 7 months later...

Ok so I need to really edit my post, because I was made a fourm post last night talking about the problems I've experienced with HTC and it was edited, the title was changed, all of the text was changed, so I'm going to do my best to change it back to what it was when I sent it.

I am disgusted.

Hi, just for reference I'm going to send to original copy, there's no point deleting and changing things this time.

I'm going to call in the morning but I'll send an email just in case it gets seen sooner. I have been using Vive for about 8 months now and in all honesty, I wish I bought an Oculus instead, the amount of technical problems is unbelievable and the repair service is far below what it should be.

I've had to buy 2 new controllers, through no fault of my own and I've just ordered a new link box. Right now I have a problem with my Vive display. *

I've spent a few hours testing everything I could to get it working, I can say for sure that I've tried everything. The issue started with the display cutting out every so often, it just blacks out and I'd have to wiggle the wire a little bit to get it working, that was today, I have not noticed this issue before. But soon after that the display just stopped working, if you have any ideas I might not have noticed let me know, but I've been very thorough with testing everything, I've tried different HDMI cables too, which didn't work, in different slots, with different settings x10.

So I think it's a problem with the Vive, but I ordered a new link box anyway, because I need VR. I rely on VR for everything, because it's close to the only thing I live for because of the people I've met there, VR turned my life around completely, I'm a different person entirely to 8 months ago and I didn't realize how that much that really meant, until it broke. If I had the money for a new one I would have bought it on the spot.

I just know what it's like getting something repaired with HTC, there's probably only a very small problem with my Vive, but if I send it tomorrow it could still take 2 weeks, but that's not ok, I don't know if I can last that long without it. Last time I sent a controller to be repaired with HTC it came back worse than when I sent it, covered in sawdust, smelling of oil. That's why I had to buy 2 controllers..

Let me know anything I could try in order to fix this, something I might of missed. If not let me know what information you need and I'll send the VR right away.

Thanks

This is my original post, feel free to compare it to the post that HTC edited.

As for the random blacking out, the problem is most definitely the 3-1 cable, as I've had it happen to my first one in the past. As long as your vive is still under warranty and you have not previously RMA'd your original 3-1 cable, you should be able to get a new one without trouble.

I ordered a new 3 in 1 cable yesterday, should be coming today.

But this is reassuring, I hope it's that. I wouldn't really be surprised, this vr tech from htc dies pretty fast lmao.

I'll see what happens.

Thanks for the info.
