  1. Hi @C.T. - worked out that the headset was connecting to an AP elsewhere and not reattaching to the AP in the play area.

I appreciate that for day-to-day usage this wouldn't be a problem, but surely the signal  threshold for reattaching to a closer AP should be much higher when using Vive Streaming?

I'll see if I can replicate and send a trace.

    Fixed issue

    • Updated the Wi-Fi firmware to address the low throughput issue which affects VIVE Streaming.

Finding performance on VIVE streaming to be far worse than before this update. I could generally run VIVE Streaming on full 200Mbps with Dynamic bitrate disabled. Now I have to either have it enabled or drop the bitrate down to around 100Mbps before I get a consistent experience.

Definitely a step back from my point of view.

Happy to generate a trace if you need it

  3. You don't need to manually launch SteamVR from the headset. I can see that you've selected "PC - Installed" on the headset launcher. You just need to launch the VR app or game from the page you are on (such as The Room VR).

If you wanted to go into SteamVR Home, then launch any PC VR application and exit it. You will automatically be taken to SteamVR Home.

Like I said in the topic, When using the exact same settings and wifi, xr elite would stutter extremely bad when using wifi streaming, and Focus 3 would have 0 problem.

    Any idea why this happens?

Had similar issues myself. Not whether the WiFi antenna is smaller than in the Focus 3 (or in a worse location), but there is definitely a difference.

I ended up having to move an AP closer to the play area to overcome the issues.

Well I think that is the problem. My original gasket doesn't snap in place. It looks like it is missing part of the piece in the center that should click into the headset. Does anyone else have this problem with the original gasket?

How bizarre. Not seeing this problem on my gasket. I assume you are meaning this bit?

Please do share how it compares with the original face gasket after receiving your order.   🙂

Received mine this morning. Very easy to fit and works as expected. It's great to be able to wear my glasses with the headset too, and it is much better to use (than the standard face gasket) in hotter weather.

    Great addition to the headset!

  7. There can be many reasons for this. I have very few issues with streaming on my setup.

    1) What speed is the LAN card running at? It needs to be at least 1Gb.

    2) What frequency of WiFi is the headset connected to? It needs to be at least 5 GHz.

    3) What is the Vive Streaming Hub reporting when you get the Vive loading animation?

It's probably best to use the "Report an issue" option in Vive Streaming and this will raise a case with Vive support with the streaming logs.

  8. You have to power them off completely. That involved pressing and holding the controllers until the LEDs go off. Sometimes you might have to press the button twice (once to wake it up and the 2nd time held down to power it off).

Make sure the LEDs aren't on, and you should be good then.

  9. Hi - just wanted to follow up on comments from @Tausendberg as someone else who has come from the Focus 3. Agree completely with everything said. Visuals are so much better in the XR Elite. The only aspects that the Focus beats the XR Elite on are the FOV and comfort level (an optional headstrap is included in the box BTW).

The WiFi performance is not as good in the Elite XR. I had to relocate my APs so that there is a good LoS between the headset and AP. I assume the WiFi antenna is not as good - given the XR Elites's smaller form factor.

The software is obviously more focused towards consumers so integrates into Viveport for headset and PC titles. You don't have to launch a streaming app to play a PC game - the titles are all listed in the Library option.

The headset still does have the annoying controller pop-up - you can't currently disable it.

I've had some Stream Hub connectivity stability issues as well. I'm thinking it might be  a firmware issue. Something that seemed to mitigate the stability issues over WifI to a degree was disabling bluetooth on the XR Elite.

Thanks! That is really interesting - I'll give this a try next time I am using it.

  11. Did you manage to get this working? There were no diagrams included in your post.

The connection to the headset relies on multicast broadcasts from the PC. I suspect that when your are connected to the 2nd router, the PC is detecting it as a different network and therefore enforcing a different firewall policy set (assuming you are running Windows firewall and not something else) - which is blocking this multicast traffic. Try disabling the Windows firewall and see if that helps.

Alternatively your going to have to use Wires hark are something similar to see exactly what is going on.

@C.T.D-link R32 AX3200, wired router to PC, good line of sight. But even with USB connection, there's the same problem just less severe.
@Beta_TesterDo  you experience frame loss with USB connection?

By the way, when the connection was lost due to frame loss, there's noticeable coil whine...

No, it's perfect over USB. Deduced that it appears to be signal-related. When I turn away from the router, the drop outs start happening. Its like my head is blocking enough of the signal to cause dropouts.

Does it not have a very good antenna?
