  1. Uninstalling and reinstalling the wireless software has done nothing. I have been able to remove all usb drivers, create a new windows user, and then reinstall the hardwired headset and linbox. After that I install the wireless adapter app and switch to wireless. It has worked twice this way for about 4-5 mins but then dropped out as before. I am hesitant to wipe my box as I have a lot of other things I use it for. I am looking at setting up a second box with a clean install of Win 10, moving my video card and vive to it to see if it works there.
  2. So having read of other people's success of doing a clean install of Windows I thought I would try something. I didn't want to reinstall fully as I have numerous other things installed on my PC, so instead I created a new Vive user. I then installed Steam, Steam VR, and the wireless app. I switched back to the hardwired linkbox connected to the HMD and let all the drivers install. I then switched back to the wireless adapter. The HMD came on and I was able to confirm that the camera was disabled in SteamVR. I started a game, thinking it was all fixed. It worked for about 30 seconds, then blacked out as it did before. This time I was able to hear USB connect/disconnect tones. I have concluded that something about the HMD is continually connecting and disconnecting USB devices. If I view the USB devices in SteamVR they do not all show as on. This is incredibly frustrating, I don't believe the device is ready for prime time. If I can't get it working in this weekend I'll be returning it.

  4. The camera is disabled, but I should point out that when the HMD is not detected you do not have the option to toggle the camera in SteamVR. Only if the HMD is connected do you get that option. I reconnected my HMD with the cables and linkbox and confirmed that the camera is disabled, then switched back to wireless.
  5. Yes, the USB disconnections happen frequently. I have tried the repair wireless adapter, which worked one time. I have restarted SteamVR numerous times. I have checked all cables and insured they are plugged in well.
  6. Do you still have your old linkbox plugged in? You must have the video cable between it and your video card unplugged but the computer uses it to communicate with the lighthouses.

  8. I've had my Vive wireless working with my system using my old 970 video card, but it was dropping frames so I upgraded my card. I have installed my new nVidia 2080 and was able to get the wireless to work perfectly through two games of Beat Saber. At the end of the secong game the HMD went black and I heard USB device disconnect tones come from the PC. Since then I have been unable to get the HMD to work wirelessly. I uninstalled all Steam USB drivers. I plugged the old linkbox back in and ran the HMD with wires, it works fine. I then disconnected the wires and moved back to wireless (inluding disconnecting the video cable from the video card to the linkbox). The wireless app will pair with the wireless HMD and show 4 bars. Blocking the antenna reduces the number of bars. After 45-60 seconds the wireless app will say "Headset not detected" even though it is paired and showing a signal strength. SteamVR is gray showing no devices connected other than the top 3. The side led on the HMD always glows red when power is connected.

Regarding the blackouts, if it were the power connection jiggling would the HMD come back suddenly? I assume if it truly lost power it would have to reboot and the app and/or Steam VR would error out saying there was no headset. I'm leaning toward there were just too many dropped frames to display anything. I should also mention that I had screen mirroring on and have MSI Afterburner installed. Both of these seem to be known issues with Nvidia cards, as discussed in the Youtube video. This describes exactly what I was seeing with dropped frames, so it looks like there might be a way to address it. I'll test it tonight and post my results here. ( ). 10. I received and installed mine yesterday. The first step that is missing in the instructions is to plug in and start charging the battery pack (even if it shows multiple lights). PCIe install went fine into small slot. The app kept showing the HMD but would then say unable to connect. This continued until I physically unplugged the HDMI cable of the old linkbox from the video card and disabled bluetooth updates to the base stations in Steam VR. I then rebooted. I was able to get the HMD to connect with 4 bars, so I started Steam VR and then started playing the Lab. As long as I was standing perfectly still everything worked fine and wirelessly. Quick head movements cause pixelization until I stop moving. This is the first time I ever got motion sick playing VR. In the middle of a game the HMD went black so I stopped playing. T he battery showed as empty so I set it to recharge and came back to it a few hours later. When I came back and plugged the charged battery in everything started up fine (app, then Steam VR, then Beat Saber). In game I didn't notice the pixelization as much and the game was totally playable via wireless EXCEPT that when I ducked or move around a wall I would periodically have the HMD go totally black. It would come back on after a few seconds. I tried jiggling the USB power cable between the battery and HMD and finally got to a point where it quit blacking out regularly. Two or three times after it went black the HMD would come back on but only be working on one eye (the right). The left eye would remain off, so I would unplug the USB cable and restart the app, steam VR, and the game. I noticed in the last crash that my Steam VR app was showing a ton of dropped frames despite the fact that I was standing 3 feet away in direct line of the antennae. I'm running a GTX 970, not sure if it just can't handle it but I don't think that would affect dropped frames would it? Hope some of this helps somone else.
