  1. I repositioned the lighthouses to different conrers of the room. Covered up everything reflective (even small things like door knobs and chair legs). And bought an AC to cool down the room under 30° celsius. For 2 or 3 days iI had no errors except an infrequent hitching. Today I had some grey flashes , but they were less frequent and shorter than before I started experimenting (I dont know why it came back again, only thing I changed was installing the newst nvidia graphics driver I will try downgrading that later)
  2. Repositioned the sensors in different corners of the room used poles to mount them, bought an AC to cool the room and covered everything reflective I could find (even small things like doorknobs, and chair legs)
  3. After a few days with almost no problems (very occasional hitching) it seems the flashing grey screens are returning now(altough much less frequently than before). The temperatures did not change.
  4. Hi again so some update: After repositioning base stations so that the beams dont hit absolutely anytihng reflective it works without grey screens or flashing for me for extended periods of time. In conclusion it seems to me that if temperatures are high enough or the sensors get warm enough there is either some kind of heat interference or the sensor sensitivity changes. When this happens the slightest reflective surface (like a door knob or the metalic armrest of my chair) can cause grey flashes. I fixed the problem for me but would like to know if this is a software or hardware issue or if it is just issues of sub optimal placement and interference
  5. Hi back after a day of testing. I got access to an empty flat, I ordered construction poles and photography mounts and set out to create the optimal play area. It was also noticably cooler today (25 degreescelsius). At the new location everything worked without a problem for several hours(around 5 hours). So I came home and modified my setup. I changed the base station locations and used the same mounting poles to get them near the ceiling looking down. I used different corners in the room to get around any outside interference. At first everything seemed fine than some grey screen appeared but way less then before and not at all in games that use room scale or standing. Then I switched my office chair (with metal parts) for a diferrent one (only made out of plastics) and suddelyall greyscreens disappeared. I only have 1 little problem left. every minute or so there is a very small wobble noticable on menu screens in VR (it could be an unrelated think will have to kepp an eye on it). It is possible that the temeprature change played a part in all ofthis but I really dont know for sure. Before I had the same flashing greyscreen that gor worse over time, and covereing those to sensors did help. For now itsworkinghere, but Ill keep aneye on it. I have a veryfar fetched theory about a possible cause based on an error I had with a simulation software I was working on some years ago: Maybe heat , interference and other outside factors cause a very small inaccuracy in the reported values of theaffected sensora that add up over time and cause a worsening effect that way, and covering them up resets them becuase they are shortly blinded but the other sensors keep adding up the same positional mistakes until tracking is lost again ( I hope I am clear enough english is not my first language). If something like this is true than the error caused byheat is not real damage just an unexpected calculation error and could be fixed by software.
  6. I bought mine on the 20. of June at Media Markt , Vösendorf Austria
  7. I dont think it is the AC for me. When the problem starts it stays until I stop using the VIVE after it was off for a time it works again for about 20-30 minutes before the grey out begins again. It starts as short grey flashes but becomes permanent until either the headset cools down or I cover some of the little indentions on the headset with my fingers. Tomorrow I will test it in a different enviroment.
  8. For me it was around 30-35 celsius as well. I actually bought a mobile air conditioning unit because it was so hot. It did not make any difference in regards to greyscreens. Could power strips cause problems? I have to large power strips with surge protection next to each other in the direction the grey out happens. Most of my hardware is plugged in to to those two. EDIT: I am alreadyusing the Steam VR beta branch did not makea difference
  9. Today I started getting the issue when playing roomscale stuff that worked before. I had not changed anything at that point. Found something else thats quite strange... If I cover specific bumps on the headset with my fingers the greyout goes away until I take my fingers of. I also slightly rotated the lighthouses to see if the position or direction of the grey area changes. It does not. Soon I will be able to test it in a different flat 1 or 2 days max. If the issue persists there I will go to my retailer where I bought the vive. I am sadened by all these problems, because when it works its such a great experience
  10. I bought it 3 days ago, the first day everything was fine, but it could be because i was onlyplaying standing stuff(had not yet made room for roomscale) I only did the firmware updates on the second day. The problemsstarted shortlyafterwards, but this could be acoincidence. I first noticed something wrong when I tried to play elite dangerous while sitting in front of the computer. At first I thought my monitor is the sourceof some interference. I tried a lot of things but I still cannot rule out placement problems or some source of interference. To test this I ordered some equipment for mounting the bases somewhere else and plan on testing in a different location. The only reallystrange thing is, that if I leave the headset of for a while , it will work flawlessly for about 20 minutes. AFter that time one spot and one direction from that spot start to "grey out". This spot/arc seems to get larger as time goes by. Also if I cover the right part of the headset after this starts the greyouts go away as long as I leave my hand on the right sideof the headset. Additionally I had some wobbling issues today that triggered motion sickness for me. The first day everything was rocksolid, tracking worked flawlessly and I had no grey spots or directions.
  11. I have bought myvive 3 days ago, the first day everything worked fine i played superhot vr the whole evening. I did not doany firmware updates the first day. Thesecond dayid did do all updates and it still worked. The first time I noticed something was on the second evening when I tried to paly a seated game for the first time (Thats the reason why I still hope it isonly some positioning problem) The grey screens appear only when sitting in front of the pc, I thought themonitor is the reason so I disabled it and covered it in cloth, did not make any difference. Then I tried disabling the WIFI , didnot make any difference, There are no highly reflective surfaces, and the windows are covered by blinds. The strangest thing is that for the first 20 or 30 minutes everything works even when sitting in the problematic position. After that time the grey outs start when looking in a certain direction (Towards the window, but blinds are closed and there are curtains in front of the blinds) Then the greyout area seems to increase slowly. But it only happens when sitting ina certain spot in the room (in front of the computer where the hotas , mouse and keyboard are) On the third day I seem to get a very slight wobble in the picture/play area from time to time. It still works while standing in the middle of the room. And starts to freak out in the sitting position but only after a certain time. The wobbling is annoying because itslightly triggers motion sickness for me. I tried mutliple usb ports (it completely freaks if connected to a usb3 port) I rebooted the vive , removed and reinstalled all the drivers, tuned theposition of the bases, downclocked mycpu to factory standards. I looked at the base station trough my phone camera and both look identical 9 bright red leds in a square one extra red light to the right and bottom plus the status led and the channel display. EDIT: I also tried dsiabling bluetooth , and the front facing camera is disabled In the logs I gett some errors: Trying to add a secondary base from base 6D7AD91D: Samples didn't yield successful bootstrap pose Resetting tracking: no optical samples from base 4FCB0C13 for 2000ms Dropped 66 back-facing hits during the previous tracking session I have ordered some stands and mounting parts so I can try the setup inadifferent room. They will arrive tomorrow or the day after. I am still hoping that it is not a hardware problem.
  12. I too have the flashing grey screen issue. For me when I start up Vr at forst everything works flawlessly for about 20 minutes. After that a a dead Grey area/direction appears. Its always the same area/direction so it could be enviroment related. But I find it strange that at the beginning it works whitout any problems. I will test it in a different today or tomorrow. I am a bit worried that it is maybe caused by heat?. I also have the impression that it becomes slowly worse. That the area in which tracking is not working is getting bigger. I also started to experience wobble that was not present the first 2 days. Edit: I did one thing before the problenms started. I updated the firmware on the base stations, I did not do that at first because i dodn't want to unmount them from their spots. AFter I discoverd tha I can update via bluetooth I updated them. problems started after that.
